Centro de Pesquisas Aggeu Magalhães – Fundação Oswaldo Cruz
The Aggeu Magalhães Research Center (Centro de Pesquisas Aggeu Magalhães, CPqAM) is a technical-scientific unit of the Oswaldo Cruz Foundation (Fundação Oswaldo Cruz, Fiocruz), located in the city of Recife, PE. There are six departments - Immunology, Parasitology, Microbiology, Entomology, Public Health and Virology and Experimental Therapy. The center conducts systematic research on various aspects of public health, emphasizing the fight against endemic diseases. It is a reference center for the Health Ministry in the control of vector mosquitoes, schistosomiasis, filariasis, leishmaniasis, plague and collaborating center with the World Health Organization in the field of environmental health. Furthermore, it maintains technical partnerships with other units at Fiocruz and with international institutions.
In the field of teaching, the center offers courses for PhD, Masters, Public Health Specialization and Multidisciplinary Residency in Public Health programs and also participates in the Programs of Scientific Initiation and Graduation of the Federal and Federal Rural Universities of Pernambuco (UFPE and UFRPE) and the University of Pernambuco (UPE), among others.
The CPqAM is also involved in the field of immunobiological production, diagnostic techniques and technological development, areas whose expansion is strategic for the development and dissemination of scientific knowledge, as well as the production of goods and services essential to overcoming the problems in public health.
